We love a hint of Colour

As fashion month ends, the conversion from catwalk to sidewalk begins. And here at Beauty Department we thought it would be rude not to let you in on a little “how to”.

First of all we’re going to start with Colour. Yes, colour. The big, fat, scary elephant in the room. There were plenty of shows this past month that used a bold and bright colour palette but there were also shows that used only a hint of colour. Something that we’re going to use as a base for our inspiration to get you started.

But lets face it; we all know it’s not exactly the easiest to pull off. Not because it’s difficult to do, but because you need the confidence to back it up. And more often than not, those adding it to their make up look for the first time are nervous.

So the biggest tip I can give anyone having a go with colour is ro add gradually and have fun. You don’t need to go all out the first time; a hint of colour is all you need to get started.

Lipgloss, Lipstick & Blush

Adding colour can be as simple as applying a shade to your lips with lip gloss or lip stick.

Lip gloss is an easy first introduction to lip colour and has a few added bonuses whilst using it; it enhances the fullness of your lips and moisturizes them at the same time.

Moving on from lipgloss is lipstick. A soft pink is an easy colour to start with or a shade that isn’t too far from your natural colour. Then as you start feeling more confident, move on up…perhaps a soft red, a bright pink or orange perhaps?

Now lets take it a bit further. Using your lipstick (lets say we’re using a soft pink/red), smudge a little on the top of your hand and with your finger, take from the colour on your hand and apply onto the top of your cheeks. Apply in a circular motion, and you’re left with a soft blush that connects to the colour of your lips.

Take inspiration from designers like David Koma, Marchesa, Michael Costello, Simone Rocha , Herve Leger, Emilio De La Morena, Markus Lupfer, Dolce & Gabanna, Dior and Desigual.
