Ally Hayward : Substance Blog

Substance blog is different to any other blog I know. It’s informative and actually so relative. It’s a health, lifestyle and fashion destination guaranteed to get you hooked from the first post. A place full of tips and tricks that really work. There’s no fluff and it’s all straight to the point. For this reason, I thought it would be a great idea to get Ally on board to share her thoughts and actually give us some useful information. She’s been in the industry for a while now, first as a model and now as a blogger so has a lot of experience when it comes to keeping fresh and looking good – all the time.

You’ve been working in the fashion and beauty industry for many years. Were there any things you were doing wrong that you now know you shouldn’t have? What are three things you’ve learnt?

1. I used to be pretty relaxed when it came to skincare and would think “I’ll start doing that when I get older”. At the time I didn’t realise it was imperative to look after your skin when you are young, to make sure you have beautiful skin when you’re older.

2. I used to apply too (READ: ALOT) of foundation every single day. For some reason I was covering up my real skin and it just came with problems. I now only use a teeny amount and let my skin show underneath.

3. I used to over pluck my brows through my teens. When I started modelling my booker said “You MUST grow them out”. Now I just leave them to be all my natural brow. I pluck a stray hair here and there. I love the bushy brow look!

How do you keep your skin glowing and stay so clear? What are the products you use and can’t live without?

I love Kheils, Dermalogica and Jurlique at the moment. I cleanse, mist and moisturise or oil in the morning and then exfoliate and apply a night cream at night. I also use an eye cream because, you know, fine lines! Ha.

What are three pieces of advice you can give to those traveling to keep healthy and their skin glowing?

Try and exercise as much as you can – ride bikes, walk to see attractions etc.

Make sure you’re refuelling with lots of healthy options when you can.

Drink lots of water – its so easy to forget when you’re on holiday!!

Do you believe in the nutritional benefits particular foods have on your skin? What are the food or drink products you swear by?

I love fresh and healthy foods. I don’t believe in cutting foods out, so I try and eat healthy 80% of the time and 20% of the time I treat myself. I love fruit, veges and fish!

I try and drink green tea throughout the day and limit myself to refined sugars.

Substance Blog is a destination for style/fitness and inspiration, that being said, how would you do you make up and hair for the following?

Date night: Red lip and sleak pony/ bun.

Work: As I work from home, I’d opt for a top-knot and fresh, barely there foundation and bronze shade on the eyes. Finished with a nude lip!

Summer night: My natural curls and dewy skin, highlighter and a coral lip!

Night out with the girls: Wavy hair and I’d attempt a winged eye, but if that failed which it probably would, i’d do a smokey eye with a chocolate shade.

What are the biggest trends on your radar at the moment?

Fashion wise: White on white, 70s are still pretty prominent in my wardrobe

Accessories: Big earrings

Hair wise: The undone look. Messy is good!

Beauty wise: Flushed cheeks and matte lips
