By Rosie Jane

An Australian born and bred now living in LA, mother and make up artist. A bit to swallow, yet she manages and she’s doing extremely well. It’s always nice to hear from another make up artist what they’re routines are because everyone is so different – everyone has their unique style. What makes Rosie Jane even more incredible though is that she’s now got her own line of products “By Rosie Jane” which are all cruelty free,  and are made from recycled and recyclable packing.

How and why did you fall into beauty? Namely creating your own products and selling them? You were a make up artist before?

I started a little bit by mistake – I used to make my own perfume that I would ware all the time and my makeup clients started asking if I could make it for them. A good friend of mine owned a store in a very trendy part of LA and asked if I would give her some bottles to sell over the holidays, which of course I did and they sold out in a week.

I decided to make it for real and then Jennifer Aniston spoke about it in People Magazine and By Rosie Jane was born.

By Rosie products are natural and cruelty free, why did you decide to go into this market?

We try to be as natural as possible but our main focus is green and environmentally friendly. With everything we know about recycling and the impact things have on our bodies and environment it feels irresponsible not to work as natural and green as you can.

Tell us a bit about the products you sell, you’ve got candles to cheek and lip glosses, fragrance perfumes and oils – why this mix?

I started with fragrance and added products organically. I love to create simple products that easily slip into your daily routine and become a lifestyle essential.

Where is it that you see By Rosie in the next few years?

By Rosie Jane is expanding more into the lifestyle market and over the next few years I would love for By Rosie Jane to have everyday essentials in the apparel and accessories market.

In regards to your own beauty routine, what are the three products you can’t live without? The three products you use religiously to make your “look”.

I have a VERY simple beauty routine so three must haves for me are:

La Mere face crème

By Rosie Jane Cheek and lip pots

Laura Mericer Mascara

In saying that, how big is your make up bag? What do you make sure is always replenished and kept in it to maintain your look?

I have a pretty small makeup bag; I have about 10 products in my bag total. I carry it in my purse all the time. I always make sure that I have Tilly fragrance oil, Chanel concealer wand, BRJ BALM (coming soon) and Glossier boyfriend brow. These products keep my super natural makeup looing well groomed and well presented and I always smell amazing!!

You’re living in America at the moment, do you find there’s a difference between beauty looks and everyday looks between the two continents?

When I first moved to LA almost 20 years ago , there was a definite difference between the two. Australia still has that uber natural beach girl and LA was a little more made up but now thanks to Instagram and snap chat the looks are pretty universal. A very well groomed beach girl look!!

And you’re a mother! What are three pieces of advice you’d give to mothers about their beauty routine or even how to maintain it?

Keep it simple. Focus on one feature – lips, brows, skin, and eyes.  Choose multi use products that are portable..

Lastly, working in the industry you’re exposed to so many creative and talented individuals. I want to pick your brain – what’s the next big thing? The next beauty trend you see ready to take the streets?

Looking at the fashion week this year – no one was wearing much makeup. I think that clear, natural skin is coming back in a big way for the younger girls.  For the last few years’ very heavy makeup has been a growing trend thanks to reality TV but I think with brands starting to get ‘back to basics’ glowing skin with minimal makeup is going to be huge for Spring/summer.
